Activity- volleyball

 21, 28/09/23 and 5, 12, 19/10/23

I always really liked volleyball but never had a chance to play regularly and become good at it, which is why I took the opportunity to learn when the school suggested it as an after-school club. In total, I attended around 5 volleyball classes so far (my watch didn't record two of them as it glitched). I can feel myself improving each time: I have become better at serving and 'bumping' the ball upwards, even when it goes quite low. Over the next few lessons, I would like to learn to spike the ball and serve from a further distance as I find this challenging. In general, I find this sport very fun and enjoy attending every week, I hope to continue improving.

Approval questions:
  • I chose to play volleyball as I think it is fun and I always wanted to get better at it.
  • This will help me be a communicator/inquirer as Mr David can give me tips on how to improve, balanced as I play sports and do school work and be reflective as I find ways to improve.
  • Mr David is my supervisor as he plays with us and gives me tips.
  • My goal is to improve my passes/serves and to be able to generally play at a good level.
  • The location is in the gym of the school on Smolensk 5.
  • It is every Thursday, 16:30-17:00. I want to do this at least until the end of this academic year.

Learning outcomes/reflection
I really enjoy this activity as it has allowed my volleyball skills to develop. My plan was to attend regularly and I attended most lessons until March. Recently, we played with teachers from the school in which we play volleyball which was really fun as there were more people. This therefore allowed me to develop my skills and improve teamwork as I also got more tips from others. I feel I have become better in serving the ball and doing general passes. I also manage to play more in defense to stop the opposing team scoring points. However, I struggle to create a "wall" to stop the opposing team from scoring a point and I still have difficulty hitting the ball accurately when it travels too fast. This experience has made me reflective, a communicator and open-minded as I try to see how I can improve, I communicate with my team when playing and recently had to play with new people I didn't know before and so I had to adapt.

An ethical concern with playing volleyball is that injuries can occur and some of them could be serious and affect the person for the rest of their lives. Overall, playing volleyball is a fun way to stay healthy and to stay healthy, more people throughout the world could consider playing this sport as no previous experience is needed.

Unfortunately, these past few months I could no longer attend the activity as I now have extra chemistry classes which happen at the same time as the volleyball activity and I need to prioritize those. However, maybe next school year I will start attending again if my schedule changes.
